This is the opportunity to COLLABORATE and grow your career and skills with unmatched sessions for learning, training and professional development tailored for all levels and interests.
The Global Business Travel Association is primarily made up of Travel Buyers and this conference is focussed on them and their challenges. There will be TMCs, hotels, air and car suppliers in the audience. The theme of the conference is not captured in a slogan but the trend throughout is discussing Supplier relationships, DEI, Sustainability and with a big emphasis on Compliance. The challenge these buyers seem to have is their reliance on the TMC to ensure PCI DSS, POPI and IATA Regulations are well met, but often when there is a problem its remains their responsibility to source the challenges and be accountability for their remedy. They have to keep abreast of current trends, changing landscapes of content on offer, new technology and most of all meeting the compliance policies within the companies they represent.
Post pandemic, they are concerned about the liquidity of the suppliers they use and have stated that whilst all assurances are given by the provider its often not enough. Unfortunately, when providers have a problem either; surrounding the onward payment to properties or liquidity in general, environmental disasters, geopolitical and health security risks it always ends up for them to resolve and drive because of the important duty of care the company has for the traveller. Their challenge is that they are more often left holding the can and what systems should be in place to make everyone in the chain accountable.

GBTA SA Travel Awards 2024
After a hiatus of five years, the Global Business Travel Association of South Africa (GBTSA) is reintroducing their Annual Awards at this year’s 2024 Conference. In such a challenging, and highly complex industry the Board believes that peer recognition is more important now than ever before.
Three categories have been introduced this year including:
The Travel Buyer of the Year,
TMC Key Accounts Manager (KAM) of the Year, and
Supplier KAM of the Year
Each with their own unique qualifying criteria. One essential qualifying criteria in the KAM awards we will only accept nominees who represent Members of the Association of Southern African Travel Agents (ASATA).
The knowledge and skills required in each of these roles is critical to the successful implementation of a travel program, and considering the sizeable contribution that business travel generates these roles must be recognised and celebrated.
Join GBTA Southern Africa at @ Sandton Hotel from 20 – 21 August 2024. We will have plenty of networking sessions, 10 educational sessions with great speakers and panel discussions.
You will have numerous opportunities to network during our lunches and the special gala dinner.

Companies have embedded diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) into their daily operations to keep up with the increasingly competitive market. Not only is this the right thing to do, but it also helps a workplace that promotes growth, profitability, and well-being. The GBTA has merged DE&I into the title of “Inclusion and Culture” to help Travel Buyers better understand the influence that the travel programs could have on creating awareness to all travellers. In this enlightening opening session delegates will be given insight into how they can make a difference and improve their travellers journey. |

Travel shouldn’t be uncertain. We live in uncertain times where unexpected events can derail an itinerary in an instant. What can a travel buyer do to mitigate the impact on the traveller. |
