GBTA SA Conference 2024

Join GBTA Southern Africa on 20 and 21 August 2024 for our annual conference at @Sandton Hotel.

CONNECT in person with your industry peers, suppliers, and partners, and benefit from unparalleled opportunities for professional and business growth. COMMUNICATE and be inspired by insightful speakers and leading experts on timely topics that matter most. This is the opportunity to COLLABORATE and grow your career and skills with unmatched sessions for learning, training and professional development tailored for all levels and interests.

The Global Business Travel Association is primarily made up of Travel Buyers and this conference is focussed on them and their challenges.  There will be TMCs, hotels, air and car suppliers in the audience.  The theme of the conference is not captured in a slogan but the trend throughout is discussing Supplier relationships, DEI, Sustainability and with a big emphasis on Compliance.  The challenge these buyers seem to have is their reliance on the TMC to ensure PCI DSS, POPI and IATA Regulations are well met, but often when there is a problem its remains their responsibility to source the challenges and be accountability for their remedy.  They have to keep abreast of current trends, changing landscapes of content on offer, new technology and most of all meeting the compliance policies within the companies they represent.

Post pandemic, they are concerned about the liquidity of the suppliers they use and have stated that whilst all assurances are given by the provider its often not enough.  Unfortunately, when providers have a problem either; surrounding the onward payment to properties or liquidity in general, environmental disasters, geopolitical and health security risks it always ends up for them to resolve and drive because of the important duty of care the company has for the traveller.  Their challenge is that they are more often left holding the can and what systems should be in place to make everyone in the chain accountable.

Interested in showcasing your brand at the conference?  We have a number of options for you to consider. Please send an email and we will contact you to answer any questions you may have.  Click here to download  the Sponsorship 2024 document.

GBTA SA Travel Awards 2024

After a hiatus of five years, the Global Business Travel Association of South Africa (GBTSA) is reintroducing their Annual Awards at this year’s 2024 Conference.  In such a challenging, and highly complex industry the Board believes that peer recognition is more important now than ever before.

Three categories have been introduced this year including:
The Travel Buyer of the Year,
TMC Key Accounts Manager (KAM) of the Year, and
Supplier KAM of the Year

Each with their own unique qualifying criteria.  One essential qualifying criteria in the KAM awards we will only accept nominees who represent Members of the Association of Southern African Travel Agents (ASATA).

The knowledge and skills required in each of these roles is critical to the successful implementation of a travel program, and considering the sizeable contribution that business travel generates these roles must be recognised and celebrated.

Join GBTA Southern Africa at @ Sandton Hotel from 20 – 21 August 2024.  We will have plenty of networking sessions, 10 educational sessions with great speakers and panel discussions.

You will have numerous opportunities to network during our lunches and the special gala dinner.

Make most of this opportunity to grow your knowledge and your travel professional community.

Keynote Speaker

Companies have embedded diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) into their daily operations to keep up with the increasingly competitive market. Not only is this the right thing to do, but it also helps a workplace that promotes growth, profitability, and well-being.  The GBTA has merged DE&I into the title of “Inclusion and Culture” to help Travel Buyers better understand the influence that the travel programs could have on creating awareness to all travellers.

In this enlightening opening session delegates will be given insight into how they can make a difference and improve their travellers journey.

Security breaches and the effect of the controls in place

Compliance could well be the term of the decade; PCI DSS, POPIA, IATA Resolutions and even more.  In this session we will explore the changing landscape and the connection between Corporate Goals and the impact on Travel Buyers.

Want to be the md?

The travel industry has been transformed at a pace not seen before, and the leaders are having to predict and respond to those changes with quicker-than-ever decision making.

Join us to hear just how they reached these positions and the fundamentals of their leadership.

Sustainability minimising the negative impacts and maximising the positive ones.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.  Hear from our industry experts just how far we’ve come and what our contribution can be.

Supplier relationships are not just transactional.

We focus on the commercial value but how far is the reach when things go wrong?  Travel Buyers are often left to their own devices in times of crisis, how do we assign accountability and responsibility to ensure travellers are not inconvenienced by Supplier shortcomings.

Wednesday: 21 August 2024

Travel shouldn’t be uncertain.

We live in uncertain times where unexpected events can derail an itinerary in an instant.  Reducing exposure to risks of any kind forms part of any travel program but even with all the plans in place emergencies do happen.  What can a travel buyer do to mitigate the impact on the traveller.

One world, one currency wouldn’t it be nice.

Currently, the world or almost all of it is accessible, so long as you don’t need to pay for anything!  This conversation will centre around overcoming some of the international payment pain points and what we can do to lessen the burden on our travellers.

Is AI only to analyse historical booking patterns?

Apparently not, the functionality of Artificial Intelligence extends much further.  We have an exciting panel and keynote lined up where in this session Travel Buyers will learn how technology is reshaping the global travel experience.  Delegates will come away more informed as to what their Travel Management partners are offering in this space and how best to access the benefits.
